Are Flushable Wipes Really Flushable?
The unfortunate news for those with a septic system is that these wipes wont always break down in time for your septic system to leach them out. When regular toilet paper comes into contact with water, it deteriorates and pulls apart. Wet wipes on the other hand, are designed to maintain a level of consistency when soaked, hence they do not fall apart when removed from their packaging.
Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) and your septic system
Fats, oils and grease (FOG) are a component of your wastewater, which are the product of dishwashing and food scraps entering your septic system or sewer. Whilst restaurants and food vendors may have higher concentrations of FOG in their system, residential houses are sometimes not immune to problems caused by a build up of these substances.
